Sunday Worship
Welcome to St. Peter's, we are glad you are here. Please enter through the red door, the side entrance to the church. As you enter the back, you will be welcomed and given the worship booklet, which contains the liturgy to guide us through the service as well as a service bulletin, which contains the lessons for the day. There are activity bags for the children should you need those. The restrooms are to your right and downstairs.
As people greet one another and settle into their pews, a prelude is played on the organ. At 9:30am, the church bell is rung three times, in honor of the Father, the Son, & the Holy Spirit, to note that the service of Holy Communion, commonly called The Holy Eucharist is about to begin.
A processional hymn is sung as the subdeacon, deacon, and priest make their way forward. At St. Peter’s Anglican Church, we celebrate The Holy Eucharist using the Renewed Ancient Text, which begins on p. 123 in the Book of Common Prayer, 2019. All of the worship service is contained in the worship booklet.
Each week, we hear God’s Holy Word (using the ESV) with a lesson from the Old Testament, a Psalm, a lesson from the New Testament, and the Holy Gospel. After the sermon and the Nicene Creed, we proceed to the Prayers of the People and then the Confession and Absolution of Sin. We exchange the Peace with our neighbor and then prepare the Lord’s Table for communion during the offertory.
All baptized Christians are welcome to receive communion in our church. If you are not comfortable receiving communion you are welcome to come to the rail for a blessing or you may remain in your pew.
After the ministration of communion and the post communion prayer, the priest will give a blessing. A closing hymn will be sung, then the deacon will dismiss everyone. All told, the worship service lasts about an hour in length.
While it may sound complicated at first, not to worry, the worship booklet and the servers guide us through each part of worship. Liturgical worship gives us the structure to direct our praise and guide our learning. We look forward to seeing you soon.
